Steve's mission was to prove that blindness is no obstacle to true vision, and if it can involve fast cars and powerboats, then all the better...

In 1999, Steve became the official fastest blind man on the planet. He took his Dodge Viper to 176mph and into the record books. The following year, his record tally doubled, as he controlled a V24 BAT powerboat to a new world offshore record of 74.4 mph.

Having set the record as the fastest blind man on land and sea, Steve moved onto the big one: creating a world first by piloting a light aircraft around the UK. The world's media were on hand to capture this audacious record for all time.
